I searched every store for a good deal on shoes for Katelyn but shoes were either 40 dollars for they didn't have her size. It made me shudder at the thought of paying that much for 1 pair of kids shoes. Needless to say I was delighted to find these pair of Twinkle Toes Skechers for $14.99. I love a good bargain especially when it is something you have been looking for!

Card Board Foam Chair

This chair has been years in the making and mostly been sitting in storage, but this last week I was finally able to make the patterns and upholster the chair. It started out with a cardboard frame and then I filled it in with spray foam. Carved and smoothed it and then it was ready to be upholstered. That's when it sat in the shed for a year or so.....

Originally I was going to cover the chair in purple fur for Katelyn to have as a reading chair in her room but not that she and Drew share a room there isn't enough space. The only fabric that I could find that I even liked the pattern and the color ended up being a set of sheets from Walmart (Better Homes and Gardens) and it was a huge cost savings. So much cheaper to buy twin sheets then that same amount of material off the bolt.

It might be a while before I attempt to make another to go with it (or maybe never) but it fits perfectly in the nook of the stairs and the wall.

To celebrate the January Birthdays for my family we went tubing at Soldier Hollow. It was so much fun. Both the kids were good. Katelyn was brave and went by herself. Drew hung out with Grandma Ruthie at the bottom but he didn't mind a bit. Somehow he is as good as can be out in the snow. Maybe it puts him into cold shock or maybe this is a good sign that he too will be a great ski companion.

If you know me well you know I LOVE to ski and it would be a dream to have my kids ski with me. I was able to take Katelyn up to Sundance for our first real ski outing.( Last year I took her to the rope tow a couple times but this year we rode the lift and it was beautiful outside. )I love the peacefulness of the mountains. Katelyn did a great job and we had a fun time. I need to get one of those ski harnesses and I think with a few more times she should be a good shape to help me teach Drew next year.....

I love winter, yes its true I do. Once I get through October and realize that summer is over I get excited for winter. There is something just so magical about snow and I love playing in it. I am glad the kids love it too. We had a blast making out first snow man of the year. The kids loved being pulled around on the sled. If only we had a small hill in our back yard, it would be perfect.

For all you mom's out there with kids learning to read you need to know about this book. It will be the best investment you will ever make.

My friend Mischele told me about this book when I was deciding about what to do for Katelyn's preschool this year. I wanted to keep Katelyn in the school close to our house, but I knew they wouldn't be able to spend a whole lot of time learning to read. So, I bought this book online and it was under $20. It only takes between 10-15 min per lesson and by only the 10 th lesson Katelyn was able to sound out and read small words.

It is sometimes hard to get the lessons in everyday but we do our best. It is fun to have some one on one time with Katelyn and it is so exciting to see how much she has learned already.

It really helps if your child can already recognize their letters and know their sounds. I think the Leap Frog Letter Factory is the best for that. It makes the lessons in this book go by really fast.

Anyways I just wanted to share my excitement for this book. You don't have to pay for an expensive preschool for your child to be able to learn to read!!!

Asian Cooking Class with the ladies

For mother's day this last year we bought my mom a spot in a cooking class held at Orson Gigi's. Betsy, Katie, Angeline, and I were all able to go too. It was so much and delicious. Dan was so excited to try some that he went the to store at 11:30p that night and bought all the ingredients so we could have it for Sunday dinner. I think we will definately be going to more cooking classes!!

Anniversary Weekend

Its been a busy summer and life is only going to get busier when Dan starts his MBA this Fall. We took advantage of having family close by had a staycation for our anniversary. My sister Betsy came and watched the kids. Dan and I went golfing (which I would do everyday if I could), then out for Korean (my new found food love) and had Bibimbap. Yumm! (Very Celiace Friendly food.) We stayed at the Marriot in Provo. (It was fun to feel like a visitor in my own town and not be in a rush to get back home.) The next day we were able to sleep in (which never happens these days with kids) and went to BYU's open practice at the stadium. Last but not least we got McDonalds for breakfast which is always fun! It was a wonderful, relaxing anniversary. The last six years have been a blast, looking forward to many more!

Christmas is Coming

It only took us two weeks to finally get our Christmas decorations out. We have been sick for the last month between Dan, the kids, and I. We just haven't felt up to getting the decorations out till just a few days ago. Its a bummer because it is so fun to have the decorations up.

Katelyn is excited for Christmas this year and keeps asking me when Christmas is coming.Here it is once everything was finished. I even got a head start on wrapping the presents.Katelyn was a good helper in getting everything done.For family night we made ginger bread houses. This is the first year that we have made them as a family and it was so much fun! Dan and Katelyn worked together on one and let me have at it with my own.

I think gum drops are disgusting but I think they are the quintessential gingerbread house decoration.Katelyn's and Dan's gingerbread house turned out great! I love the little out buildings.I had a lot of fun decorating this. It was theraputic.

For family night we carved pumpkins, it was a bit rough.....

As you can see from Katelyn in the background, she doesn't like it so much. She has a strong gag reflex (that comes from both her mom and dad) and she started dry heaving when Dan showed her the pumpkin guts. The smell alone was too much but seeing it make it all the worse.

Dan's younger brother Rob got married this last weekend up in Idaho. It was our first road trip with two kids and it went really well. It was really, really cold but we had a really good time.

Katelyn's First Day of Preschool

Katelyn had her first day of preschool and she was so excited to go. She has been talking about going to preschool for a year now and as sad as I was to have her be away twice a week, it has been a lot of fun for her. And it gives me some time to run errands and go grocery shopping. (Note to self, don't go to Walmart during preschool. It is like a black hole that sucks you in and makes it tricky to pick your child up on time.)

She has learned lots of new things, letters, words, nursery rhymes, and her latest gig is the Pledge of Allegiance. So neat!

The New Wasatch High School

It has been a very exciting week this week. It is not only the official opening of the new Wasatch High School (mine and Dan's almamater), but it is also the centennial of the establishment of the school. Dan's family has been involved with many different aspects of the schools centennial celebration and it has been fun to go to the different events and activities for the celebration.

Last night was the dedicatory ceremony and we were able to tour the new school. I told Aunt Marge (who is a teacher at the school) that I wish I could go back to high school and take advantage of all the cool new class rooms and great equipment they have there. I must say that the entrance is breath taking and it has such a neat atmosphere.

This is the logo I was able to do for the centennial celebration. They used this in a couple different places through out the high school which has been exciting for me to see.

This is just inside the front entrance of the school. It is so huge and open. I hope the students appreciate what a neat building this is and how blessed they are to have it.Here is my logo in the main area of the school.

Here is a picture of the weight room for the weight classes. I don't know if anyone recalls the old weight room with the 1950's gold machines and the corroding cushions. I sure would have preferred this room than the one with lots of "character" & peculiar odor from the old school.

Here is the pottery studio. For as old as the old school was there were so many fun classes offered especially in the art department. I wish I could go back and take a few more pottery classes.
The new gym is incredible. I am excited to attend some basketball games in the new gym. Here is my logo on the gym floor.Here is the tv broadcasting class room. It is a pretty amazing set up. Dan was in tv broadcasting in high school and I know he would have loved a classroom like this.

I would have loved to taking cooking classes in this industrial kitchen at the school.

Tonight Dan and I were able to go the the first football game of the season and we took Drew along with us. Hopefully it is the first of many more that we are able to go to.

The Little Things I love

It is so easy to forget how small they are because they grow too fast, so I decided to take some pictures so I can remember. I just love his little hands,
and his itsy-bitsy toes.I thought it would be fun to see his mini man socks next to Dan's. When I saw these socks at the store I just had to get them. I just love the gray on the heels and toes.

Katelyn sure loves her little brother. Whether its picking out his outfits, getting diapers, or cleaning his spit up, she has been so helpful.

Drew is a pretty sleepy little guy but here is one of the few times that he was alert enough so we could see his pretty blue eyes.

I just love this little romper outfit and his faux-hawk.

Already he is 3 weeks old and I can't believe it. It has been so much fun and worth the lack of sleep to have him here with us.

We've been home from the hospital for two days and it has been so much fun to have him home. Katelyn loves him and is excited that he is "out of mommy's tummy". Now we just need to teach him the difference between day and night!!

Dan and I celebrated our 5th anniversary today by taking Andrew to get his bilirubin checked and got Wingers take out. Considering I had just gotten home from the hospital the day before and am recovering from a c-section it was nice to have a low key celebration and the food hit the spot. It has been a wonderful 5 years, Love you Dan!!

This is a picture of me on Wednesday morning of this week when I was on my way to my amnio to test the lungs.

Birth Story:

So this pregnancy has been full of unexpected events. From the time I was about 15 weeks a long we knew that I had placenta previa (which is when the placenta is covering the cervix or basically the baby's escape route is blocked resulting in a c-section delivery.) I have had a number of ultrasounds to check to see whether the placenta had moved away or not and by 32 weeks I started non-stress tests twice a week. So by 34 weeks I had 3 appointments a week.

Katelyn was a real trouper and was good about coming with me to most of the appointments.

With placenta previa they typically deliver around 36 weeks to avoid the risk of bleeding and hemorrhaging, etc. So at 36 weeks (July 22nd) we had a c-section scheduled and went in for an amnio to check the baby's lung maturity. When Katelyn got an amnio at 37 weeks she had a score of 49/50 so we were expecting the baby to be somewhere around the 30's to 40's or better. When they gave us the results we were shocked, 8/50. So basically he was no where near ready enough to be delivered that week, let a lone the next week. So we scheduled another amino for Aug. 5th (38 weeks). Well, while the baby's lungs had matured to a 31, they still weren't ready enough to deliver so an official c-section day was scheduled for Aug. 13th when I would be 39 weeks and would no longer require a lung readiness score.

It was nice to have a defined date for when we were going to have the baby, but for some reason I wasn't so sure that we were really going to have the baby that day. So two days after my amnio I went in for a non-stress test (Friday) in the morning. While at the test the baby's heart rate had spike low enough times for the doctor to require some additional testing. The baby passed the testing and I was sent home. Katelyn and I ran some errands, got the car washed, and did some housework. While I was doing some laundry I got a call on my phone from the nurse who did my non-stress test telling me I needed to go back in that day for more monitoring. I was both surprised and not surprised to hear this. In some ways I was almost expecting this to happen. The nurse said there was a chance I would be having my baby that day as well. So it was a good thing I have had so many false alarms with the baby's deliver day because I had an overnight bag ready to go for Katelyn, and a hospital bag all packed and ready to go for me. I called Dan at work and told him I needed him to come home right away to be with Katelyn so I could go back to the hospital.

When I got to the 5th floor of the hospital around 11:00am, I ran into my sister-in-law Angeline who was due just 7 days after me. She was there for testing and it was ironic that we were there at the same time. The nursed had me check in to labor and delivery for extended monitoring where Katelyn's nursery leader Karla Taylor took really good care of me.

The reason they were monitoring me was because of the baby's heart rate, but they ended up keeping me because I started having regular contractions just a few minutes apart and they continued to get stronger and stronger. Since I had just had an amnio that week and they knew the lungs weren't mature they were nervous to deliver me at that point but they couldn't send me home contracting because of the placenta previa which I had which could cause hemorrhaging, etc. So they decided to give me a shot to stop the contractions.

For a while the shot made the contractions less intense, but after four hours the medicine was wearing off and the contractions were building up again. By this point Dan's Mom had come down from Heber to be with Katelyn and Dan cam and hung out with me. By this point it was somewhere around 5:30 or so and we had plans that night to celebrate Kathy's (Dan's mom's) birthday at my house with Chinese Take out, but since I was still in the hospital I wasn't able to go. The doctor decided to try another shot of medicine to get the contractions to stop and by this point I was worried that I was going to get sent home. I wasn't too thrilled about that idea and was pretty bummed. I sent Dan home to have dinner with his family and I took a rest while he was gone. I woke up to continuing contractions and by 7:45p my doctor decided to do a c-section before my labor could progress to a dangerous situation for me and the baby. I wasn't thrilled about having to have a c-section but since I was already there at the hospital it wasn't quite as bad as I thought it would be. I called Dan to tell him to hurry back to the hospital and they got me all prepped and ready for surgery. I was so glad to finally have the baby and I was scared to be having a c-section since Katelyn had a normal delivery.

I got pretty nauseated from all the medicine they gave me for surgery, but once they got the baby out I felt like a million bucks. I think they literally got rid of 20lbs of baby and water weight when they delivered Andrew. (I had 29 cc of amniotic fluid and normally people have 6-13cc when they deliver.) He was a whopping 8lbs 6oz (and two weeks early). He has more hair than Katelyn did at a year old and so far he is a pretty calm baby (something I hope doesn't change). I am so glad that he made it here safely and has been healthy. His lungs weren't even a problem, thank goodness, and he is eating decently well. I think Katelyn isn't quite sure what to think of "brother" now that he isn't in mommy's tummy and it will be nice to go home and get settled in a couple of days.

Heber Fair Days Parade & Princess Kimber

Betsy's Birthday & Seven Peaks

Since the whole family (my family minus my parents) were all going to be in town we had a big birthday bash for Betsy's birthday. We started of the day at 7 Peaks. Katelyn took some coaxing to get her to go on the waterslides, but once she did she had a blast.

It was fun to be there with all the little cousins. Charlie has a sun shade we set up on the grass next to the kiddy pools and we were able to relax and take a break and trade shifts on who was watching the little kids.

After the waterpark we headed to Charlie and Angeline's house in Orem for Pizza, Cake & Ice cream. Katelyn was definately pooped by the end of the day as were we all. It was so fun to see everyone, especially Kasey and Andrea and there kids since they live in Oregon. We will have to go again next year!!!

Carlile Family Reunion

At the end of June we went to the Carlile Family Reunion with all of Grandpa Ralph's siblings and kids. We had a good time. There was a park next to the pavillion and Katelyn had fun playing on the slides. There was plenty of shade, good company, and good food. Katelyn also had fun taking pictures on the camera. I must say she had some pretty good shots, and some that were just funny (as you can see from the picture of her shoes.)

Roller Skates

I had the hardest time trying to decide what to get Katelyn for her birthday this year. I wanted something fun and memorable but not anything that would take up much space since we only have so much space to work with. At last I decided on a pair of skates. They have training wheels and different settings to make learning easier. They are adjustable to grow with her and best of all they don't take up much space. We already had a helmet and elbow pads that she got with her scooter last year so it worked out well. She was really excited to try them out and I have a feeling we will be spending a lot of time outside going up and down the sidewalk this summer.

A-Dora-ble Adventure

Katelyn and her friends and cousins went on a Dora Adventure for her 3rd birthday. It was a lot to fit in the little space our house but I think everyone still had a fun time. (Thanks to my sisters and sister-in-laws for helping me!!)
Katelyn has been talking about her birthday for months and months and months and has wanted a Dora party from the get go. I made the kids backpacks and Dora hair (I guess the hair looks a little egyptian-esck) and it was funny how hard it was to recongnize the kids from each other when there was a whole host of Dora haired girls. They started out the party decorating their spy scopes and maps and then we went on an adventure to find Boots's boots and then played pin the boots on Boots. The girls were all really well behaved and Katelyn was so excited to have her friends & cousins there. Thanks everyone for coming!

Build-a-Sparkles

Katelyn's Grammy Kathy took her to Build-a-Bear for her birthday. It was nice for me to have some time to get things ready for her birthday party and it was fun for Katelyn to have some one-on-one time with her Grandma.

Kimber's Graduation

Dan's sister Kimber graduated from Wasatch High a couple weeks ago. Katelyn did surprisingly well during the 2hour plus long ceremony. It was hot inside where the graduation was held at the Wasatch County Events center "i.e. Pony Palace" but I survived even in my pregnant state. We are excited that Kimber is going to be going to school at UVU in the fall and will be close by.

Memorial Day Weekend

Dan, Katelyn, and I went up to Salt Lake on Saturday of Memorial weekend to take Grandma Jarvis for a ride up to see Grandpa Jarvis's grave. We were able to take some beautiful rose's from the house to take up to put on the graves. Katelyn had a lot of fun helping pick the flowers and then she ran around in the backyard and played in "Fort Apache" (not pictured). We are so glad that we could spend some time with Grannie J.

Sisters Night

Packing up and Getting Ready

With the baby soon to be joining our family, we have been doing a lot of cleaning, de-junking and re-arranging. Since I am giving up my office in order to let the baby have its own room I had to get rid of quite of bit of stuff, plus we had a lot of girl baby clothes, pictures, books, sample bags(from work), etc. to put down in the crawl space. Atleast it is all organized.
Here is a picture of just a portion of the bins we put in the crawl space. I will have to post pictures of the baby's room and a picture of my "corner office" in the corner of our bedroom.
We spent so much time getting all of this stuff ready, now that we have it finished we aren't really sure what to do to past the time. We are glad that we could get things ready ahead of schedule so we can enjoy the summer while waiting for the baby to get here.

Bean Museum

Dan, Katelyn and I went to the Bean Museum one night up on BYU campus. Katelyn had fun seeing all of the different animals. She was a bit afraid of the bears but all considering she did really well looking at everything including the spiders and other bugs.

Upgrade

We have been doing a little fixing up around here lately, and when I say we, I mostly mean Dan because I am not much help with my big pregnant belly in the way.
Dan installed three new bathroom faucets (with the help of his brother Rob). The first faucet took 4 hours and 5 trips to Home Depot. Luckily the next two only took 2 hours between the two of them and no trips to Home Depot. I love the new faucets especially since they are much easier for Katelyn to use so she is much more independant.

Now we just need to do something about that linolium flooring......

Easter Weekend in Manti

For Easter weekend we headed down to Manti along with Dan's immediate family. I forget how short the drive is from Provo. Its only a little over an hour. It was fun to get away and spend some time with the family without interuptions.

Here is a picture of Katelyn watching a DVD while Kimber and I checked out the local scene at the Walmart in Ephraim. Kimber attracted quite a few male admirers on our little outting.

We had dinner that night at Stockman's Grill. It was tasty! Though having a philly cheese steakstake sandwich isn't a good for a pregnant women with heartburn it was well worth it!

Kimber, Katelyn, and I hung out at the hotel and took a drive around Manti and Ephraim on Saturday morning while everyone else went to a session at the Temple.

We got to take a few pictures of the temple. Katelyn loved to see it and wanted to run all the way up the sidewalk to see it, but it was pretty cold so we mostly drove around in the car.

Later that day we drove over to Spring City and saw Orson Hyde grave. Orson is Dan's great-great-great grandpa (give or take a great, I can't remember how many generations back).

We were back at our house for easter morning. I will have to see if I can figure out how to post the video of Katelyn and her mini easter egg hunt in the front room. She was very excited about her Dora Easter bunny that holds candy.

After we went to church with my sister Katie and her family we headed to Dan's parents house for Easter dinner. We relaxed after dinner by watching the Masters Golf tournament and Katelyn worked on her short game.

My Birthday Surprise

My birthday surprise began by Katelyn allowing me to sleep in till almost 10a, which is unheard of. Thanks Katelyn that is all the present I could ask for. Once we finally rolled out of bed I came downstairs to find my next surprise.

Dan had a type agenda for a day full of fun events, it just cracked me up to see it. It had times, locations, and additional info. about each stop. Dan took a half day off work so we could celebrate. I was instructed to be ready to go at 11, which was the fastest I've gotten ready in a long time and Katelyn and I were ready to go.

We head out to Olive Garden, which as of late I have been really craving their salad & soup. I finished off a whole salad by myself.....

Next we headed out to Heber and while we were waiting for our babysitter, Dan's sister Kimber to get out of school, I got to play almost 18 holes of Tiger Woods golf on the Wii. Because I can't go real golfing, due to pregnancy this was a nice replacement. We were fresh out of baby wipes which would have come in handy on the car ride when Katelyn melted her after-dinner-mint-chocolate in her hand and all over her face.

Following our "agenda" closely we headed off to Park City and went and saw the new movie Monsters vs. Aliens. It was a fun movie and it was even better with a bucket of popcorn and a drink.

After the movies we headed to the outlet malls where I was able to get a new dress, and my favorite a cheese slicer. (Silly I know but its one of those things that you want, but hate to buy.)

After shopping we went to the Red Rock Cafe for dinner. By the time dinner was over we were both pooped and ready to pick Katelyn up and head home.

This last picture is of Katelyn and I a few days later baking up my Gluten Free (wheat free) chocolate cake for my birthday party we had with Dan's family. Katelyn had a good time helping me in the kitchen.

Girls Weekend

This last weekend my sister and sister-in-law got together and had a party. We kicked on the festivities by heading to the Kamas, Utah Aquatics center. Since the weather here in Utah is only good for a few months a year it is so nice to be able to go swimming and down waterslides anytime of the year. Katelyn had an especially good time trying out her new swimming arm bands and going down the water slides.

After swimming we ordered out from the bowling alley. Their chocolate shakes are mighty fine, and they are the only place in Heber that I can order and hamburger between two pieces of lettuce that I know of (I can't eat the glutenated bun...) anyways it was tasty.

After dinner we left the kids with the men and headed to the store to buy snacks and supplies for our crepes (we call them Swedish pancakes) breakfast the next morning.

The kids were pretty worn out from swimming and went to bed considerably well. Though,

Katelyn kept trying to convince Betsy that she was in need of a drink of water, band-aid or something or another, but she finally went to bed.

We adults stayed up till about 2am playing Rock Band. It was so much fun. I really enjoyed singing this time around since I knew my family would still love me afterward.....

We had a late night and for most of us an early morning (7:30am) thanks to our dear children who went to bed at a reasonable hour. We got up and got ready for the day and then started up the cooking the crepes. Strawberries with vanilla pudding and whip cream was a big hit. In fact I am still craving them and will have to have them for dinner tomorrow night.

We finished off the girls weekend by taking the kids to the park and were simply beat by the time we got home. I ended up taking a long nap when I got back. (Thanks to Dan for doing all the cleaning and tiding up at home so I didn't have to worry when I got back and could rest.)

Family Dinner

We had a family dinner at the beginning of March at my brother Charlie's house. We love having the chance to get together as a family even though my parents are gone to Argentina and aren't around to coordinate things.
Angeline made a very yummy dinner for us of bacon wrapped chicken. Everyone brought sides to go with the dish and I tried my hand at making roasted garlic mashed potatoes. (You've got to love the food network recipes.)

Short version: Its a boy!

Long version: So, funny story. I had my last doctors appt. at 13 weeks in which my doctor had the nurse set up a detailed ultra sound at the hospital a bit sooner than usual so that we could keep early tabs on the baby. With Katelyn's pregnancy there ended up being an aneurysm on the umbilical cord and so they induced me 3 weeks early. The chances of something like that happening again is almost non-existent, but my doctor just wants to be cautious and have some extra ultrasounds done with this pregnancy.

Anyways, so when I made the appt. for some reasons in my non-working-well pregnancy brain I though the nurse set up the appt. for March 24th. She handed me a post it with the date and time for the appt. on it. I kept reminding Dan that he need to cross the date off on his calendar.

So then yesterday I got a call from the hospital to do some pre-registration and I thought, hmm... that is weird that they would be calling so far in advance. At that point I was informed that my appointment was the next day Feb 24th. I was really excited because I was so anxious to have an ultrasound, but I hoped that they would be able to see what the gender was since I was only 15 weeks.

When I referred back to the post-it for the date and time of the appt. of course it said 2/24. So it was obviously an error on my part. Luckily Summer (THANKS SUMMER!) was able to watch Katelyn, and Dan was able to come last minute.

Since I am only 15 weeks it was a bit hard to see for sure, but more than likely we are having a boy!! It was so much fun to see the baby and realize he's actually in there. He was really wiggly and so small (50z). So cute!

It was such a relief to have the ultrasound and I get to have another one in a few weeks, so I will keep you updated in case the verdict on the gender changes!

Happy News!

So, you may have been wondering if we fell off the end of the earth, or whether we didn't celebrate any holidays between November and now, but the truth is we have been a bit busy.....or basically I haven't felt up to doing much.In short I am 12 weeks pregnant and due Aug. 20th. Hurray! Katelyn will have someone to keep her company.

Hopefully soon I will be able to catch up with all of the pictures from Christmas, etc. Keep posted! I am going to post date them so you will have to look back.

Snowman

Christmas Eve Bowling 2009

For the last 26 years (more or less) my family has gone bowling on Christmas Eve with the Jarvis Family. Holiday Lanes in Heber Utah is the standard location and they have the best food and shakes! This year since my parent couldn't be here with us I was glad my in-laws could come along and join us.

Carlile Family Christmas Party

Every year the Carlile Family Christmas Party is on the 23rd (almost always). We got together at the Heber Stake Building for dinner since there are so many of us. They always do a nativity, talent show, and gift exchange.

I didn't prepare a talent for Katelyn this year because I didn't think she would be interested, but to all of our surprise she volunteered to go up and sing a song and play the piano. It was really funny. She tap the piano keys for a minute and then sang a few lines of the "itsy-bitsy spider" song. I will have to see if I can get a copy of the video from Uncle Todd.

Katelyn got to be Mary this year for the family Nativity.

Ward Christmas Party

For our Ward Christmas Party this year Dan was asked to be Angel Gabriel in the Nativity play. Ashlyn (my niece) got to come with us to dinner so her parents could have a night out. Katelyn and Ashlyn had fun eating some mac and cheese together before we left.

It was a lot easier to feed them before we left so they could just enjoy snacks and hanging out at the party.

Dan had to go get ready in his costume so Katelyn, Ashlyn and I hung out with neighbors from the ward.

Dan was kind of nervous to get up on stage, but he did a really good job. Besides, with his beard and wig no one even knew who he was anyway.

We had a good time and the girls were both really well behaved.

Cruise November 2008

This post is long over due but the week after we got back was Thanksgiving and things just snowballed from there.

Dan & I were able to take a relaxing break before the hubub of the holidays. We went with our friends the Dastrups' and the Murrays'. We left from Ft. Lauderdale on a Saturday and toured through the Caribbean to Cayman Islands and Cozumel Mexico. We were gone for about a week. We left Katelyn home with family, which as much as I missed her, I was glad to have some R&R.

Here we are at dinner with our friends. The guy in the middle was our main waiter for the trip. It was nice that we went with a big group because then we had the table to ourselves and didn't have to share with people we didn't know.Here are the men in their dressy clothes on formal night. Don't they look smashing?The days we spent at sea were cold and rough so we had fun playing cards in the sun room, eating at all hours, and taking naps when ever we pleased.This is a pic of Dan & I at Seven Mile Beach on Cayman Island. We had good weather long enough to enjoy bobbing in the ocean and eating at a local restaurant in town.This is a pic of the shack that the people over the Mini Jeep Adventure stored the souped up golf carts. The shack just cracked me up when I saw it. We had a lot of fun at our excursion in Cozumel Mexico. Since we decided to do this excursion spur of the moment the Dastrups' didn't have their drivers license with them so I got to drive one of the carts and Katie was my passenger and Dan drove Jeff. I usually don't care to drive but it was fun to drive these. I think at the fastest we went was 66 K (which is about 40 mph).I wasn't so sure about this. If you know me, you know I am not a big fan of being close up to wildlife so it was a bit scary for me to be a few feet away from this crocodile. It didn't help that the walk way we were on didn't look so reliable, in fact Dan accidentally broke a piece off one of the side rails. (He claims it feel apart as he was walking by...that seems worse to me.)The best part of the Mini Jeep adventure was snorkeling. We had guides that took us out a ways from the beach and we swam down a huge coral reef. It was so incredible. Hopefully soon I will have some pictures to post on here. I couldn't believe how colorful the fish were. It felt like I was watching a high def. tv while breathing through a tube. We even saw a sea turtle while we were out there. I wasn't too keen on going snorkeling, but I am soooo glad I went.After snorkeling we went to a light house/cafe and enjoyed some fresh chips and salsa.

I just want to point out of the vicinity of where the crocodiles live to where we went snorkeling. the left side of the road in the picture is where the crocodiles live, on the right side of the road is where we went snorkeling. I was totally freaked out when I found out how close the two were, but supposedly its not an issue since the cold blooded crocodiles can't survive in the colder waters of the ocean. So that may be true but I'm sure that doesn't keep the crocodiles from taking a walk down to the beach on a warm day.....

Our assistant waiter was very entertaining. Every night he whipped up something out of a napkin. Here are a couple of our favorites.
Waiting in our room for us every night was a different type of towel animal. Ahh, so cute!We had a good time on our trip, but we were ready to get home and see Katelyn. It is funny that even though we were gone only a week, she had changed so much.

Halloween Pumpkins

Last night we (me) carved pumpkins while watching the Jazz game. We didn't want to spend all night on them, (like some of my pumpkins in previous years, see pumpkin at bottom) so I got the idea for these pumpkins from a Good House Keeping e-mail.
Katelyn was so proud of her pumpkin and was really upset when we put it outside for the night.
